Preparing Your Photo for Upload

The Photo Gallery accepts several types of image files.  The preferred file type is JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg).  There are some restrictions you will have to consider before attempting to upload your photo.  They are:

1. The image size MUST BE 640x480 pixels (or less).  A 640x480 pixels ("landscape" view) is preferred.  Your image may not exceed 640 pixels in width or 480 pixels in height.  Thus, a 360x480 "portrait" view is acceptable.
2. The image file size must be 1000 Kb or less.
3. The preferred image format is .jpg.  The following file types are allowed, but must meet the image and/or file size restrictions.
   
   .jpg. gif .png . aif .au .avi .mid .mov .mp3 .mpg .swf .wav .ra .rm .zip .pdf

Preparing A Thumbnail

Though it is not necessary to supply the thumbnail view, it is preferred.  There are some restrictions you will have to consider in creating a thumbnail:

1. The thumbnail image size must be 133x100 pixels for landscape views.  The width may be less, but the height must be 100 pixels.  Thus, a 75x100 "portrait" thumbnail is acceptable.
2. The thumbnail image size must be 10 Kb or less.
3. The preferred file types are .jpg or .gif.
4. If you do not supply a thumbnail view, one will be automatically created.  Automatically created thumbnails are normally quite degraded and are smaller than the desired 133x100 pixels.

Uploading Your Photos

You must be a registered user with member access to have the ability to upload photos.  If you have previously registered and do not have member access, you will see a "light" colored "Upload" button in the category you are attempting to upload to (see example below).   Contact Webmaster@Control-Line.net and request your access be upgraded to "member" (please provide your name and the username you registered).

To upload a photo, please use the following steps:
 

1. Log In to the Photo Gallery.
2. Familiarize yourself with the various main categories, categories and sub-categories available.
3. Locate an appropriate category or sub-category for your photo.  If you require a category or sub-category other than what is available, please contact Webmaster@Control-Line.net and request it be added.
4. Once you have accessed the category your photo belongs in, Click on the "Upload" button.
5. "The Control Panel" should now appear on your screen.  Use the provided fields to supply the necessary image location, thumbnail location, title, description and keywords.
6. When supplying keywords, please include the year the photo was taken (e.g.; 2004).  Use lowercase only.  Use any words that will assist in locating the image by search (e.g.; "electric", "contest", "pattern", "sport", "trainer", person's name, model name and etc.)
7. Check for accuracy and press the "Submit" button.
8. Once you have submitted your photo, within a few seconds (dependant on your access speed) you should see it appear on the screen.  Please note that your photo will not be publicly available until it is validated by the Webmaster.  Allow up to 72 hours.

Editing Your Photos

If you find it necessary to change (edit) any of  the information for a photo you submitted, please use the following steps.

1. Log In to the Photo Gallery.
2. Locate the photo you wish to change information for.
3. Click on the hyperlink labeled " [ Edit ]".
4. "The Control Panel" should now appear on your screen with the information you previously submitted.  You can now change any of the information necessary.
5. Check for accuracy and press the "Submit" button.
6. You should receive a confirmation message stating  "Image edited".
